What is ASEAN Business Youth Association (ABYA)?

We are a youth organisation that aims to help youths navigate ASEAN and explore its endless opportunities. Our vision is to be a leading youth organisation that nurtures future ASEAN business leaders and our mission is to empower a community of ASEAN youths to work and communicate effectively with people regionally, through cross-cultural training, exposure, application and networking.


ABYA was one of the 3 winning teams of the Youth Action Challenge in 2020 and are powered by Young NTUC and the National Youth Council.

How would LEAPS benefit a participant?

  • Acquire business insights and understand the latest market trends influencing the ASEAN market.

  • Develop interdisciplinary learning skills.

  • Develop practical and implementable solutions that suit the needs of businesses in ASEAN markets.

  • Connect with mentors and business contacts that can support students’ career development.

  • Boosts employability in an increasingly competitive labour market.

  • Learn how to communicate with people from different backgrounds across the region and build lasting networks in the region.

  • Continually engage with the ABYA to share knowledge of the unique business environments and cultures of ASEAN Markets.

Do participants receive a certificate?

All participants who register and submit will be given a certificate of participation. Participants from the top 5 teams will be awarded a certificate of achievement.

How many entries can each team submit?

Each team can only make 1 submission.

How many teams can I join?

Each participant can only join 1 team. 

Is there a fee to participate?

No, there are no chargeable fees.

Eligibility and Team Formation

Who can participate?

The Contest is open to individuals who:

  • Are nationals of ASEAN member countries (includes Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam)

  • Tertiary students/ Institute of Higher Learning from all majors

I have recently graduated. Can I participate?

No, participants have to be currently enrolled undergraduates at the point of registration.

Am I allowed to form my own group to work with?

No, ABYA will review the profiles of all applicants, engage in a matching process and assign applicants to the respective Partner Organisations. This is to encourage diversity and inclusion within the teams.


How do I know if my registration is successful?

A registration confirmation email will be sent to you after you have signed up for the competition. If you did not receive it, please write to us at to check your registration status.

When does the registration period close? Is there a fixed registration period?

Registration opens 17th May 2021 and closes on 16th June 2021 (Thursday), 23:59 (GMT+8). 

When filling the registration form, I made a mistake and filled my details in incorrectly. How do I make changes to it?

Please write in to us at to inform us. 

I have already registered my team but need to add/remove/swap out a team member. Is this possible?

After submitting your entry, no additions or substitutions to team members are allowed. 

Is there a fee to participate?

No, there are no chargeable fees.

Workshop Details [Phase 1]

What is the purpose of the workshops?

Training workshops will equip and support students across the ASEAN region with knowledge and relevant skills demanded in recent times, especially in response to Covid-19. The workshops will assist participants for the business challenge.

How can I register?

Registrations for the workshops will be opened soon. We will inform the participants containing details and registration forms for the workshops.

Who can join the workshops?

The workshops are opened to the public , including those who did not register for the business challenge. However, priority will be given to those who signed up for the business challenge.

Are participants required to attend all the workshops?

No, participants are not required to attend all the workshops however it is highly encouraged that you join. 

What does the workshop schedule look like?

Exact workshop dates and time will be released soon on our webpage. 

How will the workshops be conducted? Do I have to be physically present during the workshop?

The workshops will be conducted online. A zoom link will be sent to participants closer to the workshop date. 

How do I indicate my interest for the training workshops?

Participants will receive an email containing details and registration forms for the workshops. 

How will I know if I am shortlisted for the training workshop?

Shortlisted participants will receive a separate confirmation email for a slot in the workshop. 

Will the workshops be recorded and shared?

Workshops will be recorded solely for internal purposes but will not be shared. 

Will training materials (ie. slides) be shared offline?

Materials may be shared at the discretion of the presenter of the session. This will only be available to the attendees of the session.
